5-Day Masai Mara/Nakuru/Naivasha Group Camping Safari

Overview

This safari covers the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru, which is home to hundreds of thousands of flamingos, pelicans and numerous other bird life, Lake Naivasha and Hell’s Gate. You will also visit the Masai Mara, which has been declared one of the seven wonders of the world for its spectacular wildebeest migration.

Day 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara

You will be picked up from the airport or your hotel around 8:30am in Nairobi and then make your way to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, stopping at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint along the way. After a picnic lunch you will make your way into the Mara and then proceed on an evening game drive. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Lenchada camp (or similar).

Day 2: Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast you will make your way into this unique park with a picnic lunch in hand. You will have the chance to visit the Mara river, which borders the Mara and the Serengeti. There will be a large concentration of animals here during the time you will be traveling! All meals and your overnight stay will be at the camp.

Day 3: Masai Mara- Lake Nakuru

After an early morning game drive, you will return for a late breakfast and then make you to way to Lake Nakuru National Park. If time permits you can go on a boat ride to Lake Naivasha’s Crescent Island. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Lanet Matfam Hotel or Golden Palace.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru -Lake Naivasha

After an early breakfast you will spend the morning in Lake Nakuru National Park, where you will have the chance to see some of the 350 bird species that have been recorded here. This is also home to the black and white rhinoceros. Indeed, this park was established for the protection of species such as the rhino, Columbus monkeys, leopards, giraffes and a variety of plain antelope. Afterwards you will depart to the nearby Lake Naivasha, eating a picnic lunch along the way. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Taphe Guest House.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Hell’s Gate – Nairobi

After an early breakfast you will proceed to Hell’s Gate National Park, where you will have a chance to visit the geothermal power plant in Ol Karia and the hot springs. This is the only park that allows you to get around both on foot or bike. You may go on an optional boat ride to Crescent Island, where you can watch hippos and other wild animals. After lunch you will make your way to Nairobi, arriving in time for a 5:00pm drop off at your hotel.

Best time to visit Kenya

Kenya is open all-year-long, the best wildlife viewing months in Kenya are during the Dry season from late June to October.

The wildebeest migration usually reaches the Masai Mara in August and remains until October when they move back to the Serengeti in Tanzania.

 June to October –Dry Season. Wildlife is easier to spot.

July to October are the best months to see the wildebeest migration It gets very busy and crowded in the most popular parks.

November to May –Wet Season

The scenery is beautiful and green Rates drop because it’s the low season.
