8 – Day Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Masai Mara Value Safari


An incredible safari to three of Africa’s most iconic parks and animals: Tree climbing lions & Chimpanzees at Queen Elizabeth NP, the mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the lions of the Masai Mara. An incredible value bucket list trip where you’ll also come across the Big 5 safari animals and see the amazing diversity of East Africa and its people in one week!

Day 1: Arrival, meet and greet

Go Kenya safari guide will meet you at Entebbe airport and transfer you to your guesthouse with views of Entebbe & Lake Victoria. Depending on your arrival time you will have the opportunity to visit the botanical gardens, shop for some forgotten items or simply enjoy the birdlife at this homely guesthouse.

Day 2: Transfer west and evening game drive

We’ll depart Entebbe by road early in the morning heading west via the equator. We’ll take lunch en route and arrive at our lodge in the midafternoon. After a quick freshen up we’ll head into the park and onto the Kasenyi savannah in search of elephant, lion, leopard, hyena and various antelope, all with the stunning Rwenzori mountains as our backdrop. On arrival, do a crater lake tour or just relax and wait for tomorrow amazing encounters.

Day 3: Chimp tracking and afternoon boat cruise in the Kazinga plains

The day starts with your hike in Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The forested gorge has a large population of wild animals and many primates. While chimpanzee sightings are our main aim, they are not guaranteed, however the trek is excellent and the other wildlife makes it well worthwhile. After lunch we’ll head through conservation area and Ishasha sector, where if you’re very lucky you might spot a lion up a tree! As the afternoon wears on we’ll find ourselves exploring the Kazinga channel. You take a remarkable boat ride to discover the Kazinga aquatic like crocodile, hippos, etc.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi via the Ishasha

Leave Queen Elizabeth National park and embark on a transfer to Bwindi to meet the incredible gorillas of Uganda. You pass via the Ishasha sector where you will meet the tree climbing lions enroute before proceeding to Bwindi. Time permitting, reach and proceed for a cultural encounter and then proceed for dinner, relaxation and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi

Today’s the day! The walk can be anything from 30 mins to 5+ hours, but is usually in the 1-2 hour range. The going can be tough, the terrain steep, vegetation lush and the weather wet but when you finally come across the magnificent beasts it will all be worthwhile! You will spend one hour with them, observing their day to day activities at close quarters, following them through the forest. The time will fly but the memories will stay with you forever.

Please note:

  • If you are sick you will not be able to visit. The safety of the gorillas is paramount.
  • Unfortunately your permit is only partially refundable, at the discretion of the park warden.
  • A reasonable level of fitness is required for this trek.
  • Good walking shoes, waterproof jacket and long trousers all in neutral colors are essential.

Depending on the duration of your trek you’ll have time to proceed to Lake Bunyonyi for a relaxing evening boat ride in Lake Bunyonyi (Africa’s second deepest lake). The boat ride is done in hand-made canoes and it’s truly refreshing.

Day 6: East Africa from Above

After breakfast you will retrace your steps back down the mountainside to Kihihi where your scheduled flight will return you to Entebbe. You will then transfer within Entebbe airport for your flight to the Masai Mara, touching down in Kisumu en route for immigration formalities. It’s a short transfer to your secluded riverside lodge, set among acacia woodland. After the chance to freshen up you will head out on an evening game drive before dinner.

Day 7: Undeniable Masai Mara wildlife encounter

A day exploring the Masai Mara in search of lions, leopards, giraffe, elephants, rhinos, wildebeest, cheetah and so much more. You’ll also pay a visit to a nearby Masai village and the opportunity to learn a little about their way of life. There are also optional activities such as balloon safaris and guided walks.

Day 8: Masai Mara transfer to Nairobi

After an early breakfast, you embark on sunrise game drive as you will be transferred by road to Nairobi which depending on traffic will take 4-5 hours.

Best time to visit Kenya

Kenya is open all-year-long, the best wildlife viewing months in Kenya are during the Dry season from late June to October.

The wildebeest migration usually reaches the Masai Mara in August and remains until October when they move back to the Serengeti in Tanzania.

 June to October –Dry Season. Wildlife is easier to spot.

July to October are the best months to see the wildebeest migration It gets very busy and crowded in the most popular parks.

November to May –Wet Season

The scenery is beautiful and green Rates drop because it’s the low season.
